Friday 16th October 2009

The Taoiseach, Mr. Brian Cowen today (Friday, 16th October 2009) officially opened the Corporate Headquarters of the Clonmel based SEPAM Group. Established in 1974, SEPAM is an Irish based Engineering, Procurement, Project Management and Construction Services Company with over 30 years experience in successful project execution around the globe currently employing over 2,400 people globally with approximately 350 working from the Clonmel office on projects in Ireland, the UK and Europe.

The Official opening coincided with the announcement by SEPAM that it has recently been awarded an €25 million contract related to the development of the Greater Gabbard Offshore Wind Farm, which once completed will be the largest offshore wind farm in the world. Located 23km off the Suffolk coast, the €650 million wind farm will comprise 140 Siemens 3.6 MW offshore wind turbines with a maximum installed capacity of 500MW, sufficient to power over 415,000 homes.

Fluor, the US based engineering, procurement, construction, maintenance (EPCM), and project management corporation, has appointed SEPAM as the main contractor for the electrical fit out of the wind turbine Transition Pieces. The engineering and procurement phase of the project is being conducted from SEPAM's Corporate Headquarters in Clonmel, while the fit out works will take place at the Port of Vlissingen in the Netherlands.

Speaking at the Official Opening SEPAM Chairman, Gus Kearney said, “SEPAM is an example of an indigenous Irish business exporting skills and expertise across the globe to facilitate the development of some of the world’s largest industrial projects in the fields of petrochemicals, LNG, sustainable energy, pharmaceutical, power and infrastructure. This contract brings benefits to our Irish base in Clonmel where a team of experienced project and functional staff and engineers will manage the project while the company will employ in excess of 100 skilled workers on-site in the Netherlands. Despite the current economic environment we continue to develop and grow our business and we are continuously looking for senior management professionals to work with us on major projects around the globe.”
